Tyrone defeated defending champions Kerry by 1–16 to 2–10 to capture their second All-Ireland Senior Football title. Peter Canavan’s goal shortly before half-time gave Tyrone the advantage, and although Tomás Ó Sé’s second-half goal brought Kerry back within a point, the Red Hands held firm before Philip Jordan sealed victory with a late score. Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh’s commentary captures the tension and momentum changes of a final remembered as a modern classic.
